Cooling for Medical Conditions - NDIS Invoicing Available

Heat sensitivity can be debilitating

For people living with Multiple Sclerosis and other thermoregulation conditions, even a small rise in body temperature can worsen symptoms significantly. Cool Performance supplies clinically-informed, wearable cooling solutions across Australia & New Zealand — and we can invoice directly through your NDIS plan.

The right cooling clothing makes a real difference

Why cooling helps with Multiple Sclerosis

MS affects the nervous system's ability to regulate heat. A temperature increase of as little as 0.5°C can temporarily worsen symptoms — a phenomenon known as Uhthoff's phenomenon — causing increased fatigue, muscle weakness, balance issues and reduced mobility.

The good news: the research is clear. Multiple peer-reviewed studies have demonstrated that cooling garments can meaningfully reduce these effects:

  • A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis (published in ScienceDirect, covering 384 MS participants) found that cooling garments improved walking capacity, functional mobility, muscle strength, balance, and reduced subjective fatigue — across both temperate and warm conditions. (Stevens et al., 2023)
  • A randomised crossover trial found that pre-cooling with a vest significantly improved 6-minute walk test performance in people with MS. (Karpatkin et al., International Journal of MS Care)
  • Research published in Neurology (journal of the American Academy of Neurology) found that active cooling improved balance by approximately 20%, muscle strength by approximately 10%, and significantly reduced fatigue levels.

"Cooling garments can improve physical function for people with MS. Since none of the cooling garments caused harm… people with MS should experiment with different cooling garments to determine their preference."— Stevens et al., 2023 systematic review.

We currently have studies on MS and cooling on file — contact us if you'd like references for your healthcare provider or NDIS planner.

Medical conditions

Who we help

Our medical customers include people living with:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) — our most common medical need, with many clients finding us through MS community networks across Australia
  • Thermoregulation conditions — where the body struggles to manage heat effectively
  • Post-surgical or chronic conditions — where heat intolerance affects daily activity and quality of life

We also supply healthcare professionals — physiotherapists, occupational therapists and support coordinators — who recommend cooling solutions as part of their clients' care plans.

Not sure if your condition qualifies? Contact us — we're happy to discuss your situation and recommend the right product.

Our most recommended products for medical needs

Inuteq-PAC

Phase Change Cooling

(most popular for NDIS)

The PAC vest uses bio-based PCM to deliver stable, consistent cooling at a controlled temperature (our coldest in 6.5°C & 15°C, ). This makes it ideal for medical conditions where reliable, measured cooling is important — not too cold, not too warm.

Inuteq-H2O

Evaporative Cooling

A lighter-weight option for outdoor use (air flow is needed): from vests to t-shirts and accessories.

NDIS Process

How to purchase through your NDIS plan

We are experienced in supplying cooling products through NDIS funding. The process is straightforward:

Are cooling vests covered by the NDIS?

Yes — cooling vests are a recognised NDIS Assistive Technology support item (Support Item Ref: 05_043006111_0103_1_2) specifically listed for people with thermoregulatory conditions. As low-cost assistive technology, they can typically be purchased directly through your plan without requiring a formal quote or prior NDIA approval — making the process simple and fast.

If you're unsure whether your current plan includes funding for a cooling vest, your support coordinator, occupational therapist or plan manager can confirm. You're also welcome to contact us and we'll help point you in the right direction.

Step 1 — Contact us

Email or call us with your enquiry. Let us know:

  • The product(s) you're interested in (or ask us for a recommendation)
  • Size and colour preference
  • Your NDIS number and plan name
  • Your shipping address & details for Australia Post tracking (mobile no & email)
  • Whether you'd like us to send the invoice directly to your plan manager

Step 2 — We prepare your quote or invoice

We'll send you a quote or a formal invoice — whichever your plan requires. We can include relevant product references for cooling and thermoregulation to support your claim if needed.

Step 3 — Payment & dispatch

Once your plan manager approves and remittance is received, we ship your order promptly. You'll receive a message from Australia Post with the tracking information directly.

Use the Contact us form below or call: 0422 418 104

We work with participants, carers, support coordinators, OTs, physiotherapists and plan managers — whoever is managing your plan, we'll make it easy.

Cooling vests remain NDIS-funded Assistive Technology for thermoregulatory conditions.

Part of the MS community in Australia

Over the years, we've been humbled by MS customers who've shared their experience with others in the community — that kind of personal recommendation means more to us than any advertising. If you'd like to talk through your situation before purchasing, we're always happy to have a conversation.
