How does heat affect us?
When wearing safety/tactical equipment, heat develops under the layers of personal protective equipment. Recognising heat strain in people wearing them is essential, watch for:
- premature exhaustion
- difficulty in going the distance
- trouble in decision making in difficult circumstances
- loss of appetite
- prolonged fatigue and dehydration, etc
Recognising heat stress symptoms will be essential to ensure everyone is working safely. All of the above factors can seriously affect how military or first responders make decisions, particularly when posted where weather conditions can be very unpredictable during summers.
