HOW IT STARTED
In 2019, INUTEQ developed the Entry PCM CoolOver — a bio-based phase change vest designed to be worn under PPE, easy to clean and built for medical environments. It was originally developed for elite sport.
When COVID-19 struck in March 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics were postponed, the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) made a decision: the cooling vests purchased for athletes going to Tokyo would go to the hospitals staff that needed them most.
INUTEQ's director Eric Pellis personally delivered 10 cooling vests to Amphia Hospital in Breda, where ICU staff were struggling with heat stress under full PPE. Five hospitals across the Netherlands received vests in total.
What followed was a peer-reviewed study on cooling vests and heat stress for medical workers, documented in the Thermo Tokyo project (involving NOC*NSF (Dutch Olympic Committee), TNO, HAN University of Applied Sciences, VU University Amsterdam, and Delft University of Technology).
